I purchased two copies of the matt black, imitation leather version of "Morning and Evening". I'm specifying this because I noticed the reviews for the "Morning and Evening" devotional by C.H. Spurgeon can be for different editions. While there are plenty of reviews by others regarding the devotional itself (it's a work of Spurgeon; how could it not be awesome?), I'd like to comment on the physical, descriptive aspects of this edition.The book is barely larger than a common checkbook, and is only 5/8" thick (not the almost one inch as listed under the book's dimensions), which is perfect for toting around (it fits perfectly and rather comfortably in the front pocket of a pair of Dockers). The cover is indeed a matt black finish, unlike the almost shiny appearance of leather Bible covers. The type is small but is very readable to my 41-year old eyes, with the morning reading on the left page and the evening's on the right. The paper is just like that of a good-quality Bible; thin, almost tissue paper-like, but not so thin that they're overly delicate. The golden edges and a black ribbon marker give the book a very "bible-esque" appearance.
I wasn't sure if the edition I ordered contained the original, unabridged work of Spurgeon, complete with all the "thee"s and "thou"s, which is what I wanted. To the best of my knowledge, this is an unabridged version, and does indeed contain Spurgeon's original language (which at times is a bit archaic, but hey, it's Spurgeon. It never hurts to open a dictionary once in a while). The Bible translation used is the King James (which at times is a bit archaic, but hey, it's a classic and still a very accurate translation. It never hurts to open a dictionary once in a while :-)).
After owning and reading this book for about a month, I'm very pleased with the overall construction of it. It's held up to being read and carried in my book bag or my pocket every day since receiving it. I'm also very pleased with the contents. I would highly recommend this book to anyone in search of a daily devotional who wants something more than most of the cotton candy-like fluff being passed off as Christian literature these days.

I so much enjoy this that I look forward to of everyday. Couldn't dream of starting my day, or ending my day, without it.
Love this Charles Spurgeon devotional. This one is revised and actualized. Easier to understand. Original version is written in Old English. I get a touch of our Lord Sweetness every night and day.
Charles Spurgeon's writings always make one think, are well grounded in the word, and make devotional times teaching times. Highly recommend! And the updated language makes reading less tedious.
I love the book itself, there isn't a better daily devotional anywhere, but this particular edition by this maker has too thin paper, a different font size and style, making it less than the best one I could have purchased. It is nice that the leather is actual leather instead of leatherette, but it won't be as easy to read as others I have purchased in the past.
Two stars are for the binding. It's actually pretty terrible. It's coming apart after only a few weeks use.
My father has a copy that has been read by multiple people multiple times. This doesn't have a chance of that.
I love this book. I love the size, I love reading it, I love that it has the Bible feel to it with the Gold-edged thin pages. It has a ribbon bookmark attached to the spine. I just love it. My brother's favorite is the June 28th morning devotion.
The quality of this book is not good. I purchased it as a gift for my friend but had to return this one. When the book is opened the "covering" sags on the spine, front, and back. The book does not have a book jacket, I am talking about the actual covering of the book that is suppose to be attached. This is NOT a review for Spurgeon's morning and evening devotional content! Spurgeon is an amazing writer. I love this devotion and own it myself.
